Borders: A Transnational Photography Project

Welcome to the Borders Photography blog.

The project this site represents is an attempt to examine the impact of forced migration on ethnic minority children from Burma. Using an anthropological approach that depends heavily on the use of art and photography, the project will address questions of personal, communal, regional, and national identity.

  1. Some Additions

I’ve uploaded a few additional photos (see below) from a variety of assignments completed during the last month I was abroad. I’ve been slowly going through all of the photos, quotes, interviews, etc., and have found some images and captions I overlooked (or ran out of time to upload initially). A set of ten of these photos is below, but I’m sure I’ll be posting more over the coming month.

  2. "There is something about the house in this photo. In this photo is a mother’s bed, and a son’s bed next to it. The beds look so good to sleep there together. This is the Karen style."

  3. "In this photo, a mother is washing her child’s clothing. This photo is like my mother washing my clothing, in my house in Burma. So, I like it very much. The love of all mothers is so meaningful."

  4. "This photo is very beautiful. It is very pleasant and looks good. The view is beautiful and the colors are bright."

  5. "People are playing in this picture. People are also eating inside of the house. It is very interesting everything that happens at the house."

  6. "This is a photo of the school. I like this photo . The school is the most important thing for the community. This is because if there is no school, then there is no education."

  7. "This is a picture of our electric light. We only have one, and it only have power sometimes, but it is very important and many villages do not have it."

  8. "This house would be so nice to live in. Before, this house is one family’s house, but now it is another family’s. But, this house is always lovely and it is important for people to have a home."

  9. "The scenery in this picture is good. Also, the colors look beautiful together. I think these kind of scenery pictures are very beautiful."

  10. "This photo is of my friend. It is so beautiful. I like it very much."
