Borders: A Transnational Photography Project

Welcome to the Borders Photography blog.

The project this site represents is an attempt to examine the impact of forced migration on ethnic minority children from Burma. Using an anthropological approach that depends heavily on the use of art and photography, the project will address questions of personal, communal, regional, and national identity.

  1. Session Five: “Moving Forward” Introduction

    Session Five: “Moving Forward”

For the last session of the photography workshops, I felt it was critical to encourage the students to develop their their own ideas and interests related to photography. As I will leave a camera with both groups of students, to be checked out from the adult in charge of each group, I wanted to be sure the students felt confident about continuing to explore photography on their own, outside of the workshop.

To do this, I asked each student to come up five themes or concepts they would like to focus on in their photography in the future. Each student chose one, then we planned out a short field trip that would allow each child to photograph those things they found interesting.

The following posts are (some of) the results of this assignment, with themes that focus on everything from colors to nature. Each post represents the interest of one of the students participating in the workshops.
